REPORT & RECOMENDATIONS:

Host National Congress: Continue efforts begun by immediate past VPG Don Thomas to explore the feasibility of hosting a National Congress in the Pacific Northwest. A Steering Committee continues to poll Pacific District leaders regarding the feasibility of hosting a National Congress in the Seattle area in the future after the year 2018.

Pacific District Web Page: Communicate with Oregon Society Webmaster David Devin to get a Pacific District web page up and running on the SAR National Web Site comparable with other District Web Sites.

Pacific District Treasurer: Communicate with Oregon and Washington State Treasurer’s to accelerate development of guidelines regarding the new Pacific District Treasurer position.

Promoted participation in the NLA Patriots Project and Bakeless Bake Sale.

The Alaska Society has become re-inspired by President Walter John, after being encouraged to participate in the Flag Certificate, Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest, and Tom & Betty Lawrence History Teacher Award programs. They’re also getting a web site up and running on the SAR National Web Site comparable with other State Society web sites.

The Oregon Society, led by President Eugene Melvin, has an exceptional relationship with local DAR organizations resulting in recruiting new members, and thus is exploring forming a new Chapter in Bend, Oregon. The ORSSAR frequently participates in VA sponsored activities, and enjoys a new liaison with the Portland VA Medical Center. The ORSSAR Color Guard has participated in several parades and honor flights.

The Washington Society, led by President Jim Lindley, has taken bold steps toward solving their State Life Membership situation and is exploring establishing a new Chapter in north Puget Sound. Planning is well underway to host the 2013 Pacific District Meeting at which PG Leishman is expected to attend. The WASSAR Color Guard, commanded by Bob O’Neal and Stan Wills, is doing a fantastic job representing our Society at various fairs, parades, youth baseball games, joint SAR/DAR functions, honor flights, and Boy Scout flag retirement ceremonies.
